On Friday, the Philadelphia hosted Day 2 of the NFL Draft. Both rounds 2 and 3 were held, and the Ravens made three picks. All three of those picks were for defensive players. These players were second round pick Tyus Bowser, LB from Houston, and third round picks Chris Wormley, DT from Michigan, and Tim Williams, OLB from Alabama. Bowser was productive at linebacker in his four years at Houston. In his senior year, he totaled 47 tackles, and 8.5 sacks. The Ravens had previously met with him prior to the draft, and really liked what he brought to the table. Bowser is a solid player picked at 47 overall. Chris Wormley was a solid defensive tackle for the Michigan Wolverines. In his career with the team, he racked up 119 tackles, 31.5 of which for loss, and 17.5 sacks. There’s no question that coach John Harbaugh asked his brother, Michigan Head Coach Jim Harbaugh about Wormley, and his influence was likely a reason the Ravens decided to draft Wormley with the 74th pick. Finally, the Ravens drafted OLB Tim Williams at pick 78. Williams had been at one point considered a first round talent, but character concerns caused his stock to drop. With 9 sacks in his senior year, Williams is an exceptional pass rusher. If the Ravens can make sure he stays on the right track, he can become a star in this league. So far a great performance by Ozzie Newsome and the front office, but they are not done yet. Day 3 starts at 12 PM EDT today, and hopefully the Ravens can close out their strong draft even stronger.
