Today the Baltimore Ravens announced that the second year running back, Kenneth Dixon, tore his meniscus. This is a major blow for Dixon, as he will now miss a significant amount of practice time during training camp. He also was already suspended for the first four games of the season, for violating the NFL’s PED policy. Dixon is now set to have knee surgery today. A rough time frame for coming back from this injury is 6-8 weeks. Dixon would not be able to practice for almost all of the offseason, and possibly some of the regular season.

The Ravens are now signing running back Bobby Rainey, who was with Baltimore earlier in his career. The Ravens are looking to add more depth to the running back position with Dixon out for the foreseeable future. Rainey will be used as a third or fourth string running back if he is kept going into the regular season. Rainey has found some moderate success during his career, most notably his 400-yard season with Tampa Bay in 2014.

Update (6:20 PM EDT): According to NFL insiderĀ Ian Rappaport, Kenneth Dixon will be kept away from football for 4-5 months after his injury. This is a huge blow to the Ravens running backs corps, as Dixon had an opportunity to contribute. Baltimore will now have to rely on running backs Terrance West and Danny Woodhead throughout the season, in the absence of Dixon.
