Today, the Baltimore Ravens officially brought back wide receiver Griff Whalen. Whalen had been with the team in the offseason this year. Whalen had previously played with the Indianapolis Colts, Miami Dolphins, San Diego Chargers, and New England Patriots. Whalen was originally brought to Baltimore to compete for a roster spot at the receiver position. He also had an opportunity to claim the starting role as the kick and punt returner. Despite having the veteran advantage, Whalen did not make the final 53 man roster. Since cutting Whalen, circumstances for the Ravens have changed. With the addition of Whalen, Baltimore only has three wide receivers that are fully healthy. These receivers are Griff Whalen, Chris Moore, and Michael Campanaro. Mike Wallace, Jeremy Maclin, Breshad Perriman, and Chris Matthews, are all dealing with their own injuries. None of these players have been ruled out of Sunday’s game against the Vikings yet, but Mike Wallace is the most likely to play this week. Wallace himself said that he expects to play against his former team come Sunday.

To make room for the move, the Ravens released offensive lineman Tony Bergstrom and cornerback Sheldon Price. Bergstrom had joined the Ravens after being traded to Baltimore by Arizona late in the offseason. Bergstrom filled in for Marshal Yanda when he first was lost to injury. Bergstrom was inactive for some of the Ravens games this season, and he only hit the field 32 times. Sheldon Price joined the Baltimore Ravens in 2015, previously playing for the Indianapolis Colts. It’s no surprise that the Ravens decided to release Price, as he has had a history of injuries with the team. In Week 5 of 2016, Price sustained a biceps injury and was placed on the injury reserve. Then, in Week 1 of this season, Price sustained a concussion and was again placed on the injury reserve.
