Baltimore Ravens cornerback Jaylen Hill tore his ACL and MCL in Saturday’s game against Indianapolis. Hill, an undrafted rookie, was a standout in the preseason and earned himself a coveted roster spot. Despite his strong performance in the preseason, Hill saw little action throughout the 2017 campaign. Hill missed time in the beginning of the season with a thigh injury and played his first NFL game in late October. In the games he did play, Hill only recorded 3 combined tackles and one pass deflection. The loss of Hill adds on to the ever-growing list of injured Ravens, especially in the secondary.

Jaylen Hill is now the fourth Ravens defensive back lost for the season. Budding standout Tavon Young tore his ACL during the offseason. Brandon Boykin was also placed on the injured reserve with an undisclosed injury. Additionally, Baltimore lost its best defensive back just a few weeks ago. Lockdown cornerback Jimmy Smith tore his Achilles against the Lions in early December. It is also worth noting that Baltimore had kept Maurice Canady on the IR for a while as well. Unlike the others, Canady was able to return. Jaylen Hill’s injury exemplifies why Ozzie Newsome elected to beef up the secondary. In recent years, depth in the secondary has been an issue for Baltimore. However, with some additions this offseason (Brandon Carr, Marlon Humphrey), depth in the secondary has become a strength for the Ravens.

In response to Hill’s injury, Ravens’ head coach John Harbaugh said that his team will look to add another cornerback to the roster or practice squad before Sunday’s game against the Bengals. In addition to this statement, Harbaugh mentioned defensive back Robertson Daniel, who is currently on Baltimore’s practice squad. The coach said that Daniel is ready to play, signaling that the Ravens will likely target him as Hill’s replacement.
