On Tuesday, the Baltimore Ravens minicamp opened, as the team works to improve before training camp later this summer. The Ravens are starting to mature as a team this offseason, and people are taking notice. Although it is still early in the offseason training process, certain players are beginning to stand out, for better or worse. Other storylines continue to develop, as some players are hunting for new contracts, and overcoming injuries. Minicamp is always filled with important news, and the first day was no exception.

Alex Lewis Suffers From Back Spasms

During his post-practice presser, Ravens Head Coach John Harbaugh revealed that offensive lineman Alex Lewis was absent from the first day of minicamp because he was afflicted by back spasms. The extent of the injury does not seem to be severe, as Harbaugh expects Lewis to return to the field during minicamp. Alex Lewis missed the entirety of the 2017 campaign with a torn labrum, which required surgery. Although back spasms do not seem menacing, his injury history needs to be considered. Coach Harbaugh and the Ravens medical staff will likely play it safe when dealing with Lewis. They will want to make sure he is totally healthy this year.

C.J. Mosley’s Contract

During his post-practice interview, Pro Bowl inside linebacker C.J. Mosley was asked whether or not he thought about skipping time in minicamp. Mosley is currently nearing the end of his rookie contract and is in the process of negotiating a new deal with the Ravens. Mosley quickly shot down the idea of him missing time. It is apparent that he is focused on football, and making the Ravens a winning team. He said that he lets his agent worry about the numbers involved, while he just works on perfecting his craft.

Breshad Perriman’s Drops Continue

Although many fans remain hopeful that the perennial disappointment that is Breshad Perriman will turn around this year, it still remains unlikely. According to reporters in Owings Mills, Breshad Perriman has continued to drop passes. His ability to, or lack thereof, catching the football, was a major problem for him and the offense last year. He is due a $649,485 roster bonus on the third day of training camp this summer. The ever cap needy Ravens will not hesitate to make room if he does not prove he belongs on this team by then.
