This morning, reports surfaced that the Baltimore Ravens were interested in former Redskins cornerback Brashaud Breeland. Breeland was selected by the Redskins in the fourth round of the 2014 NFL Draft. Breeland, now 26, became an unrestricted free agent after the Redskins opted not to re-sign him. Breeland agreed to terms earlier this offseason with the Carolina Panthers on a three year, $24 million contract, which included $11 million in guaranteed money. However, that contract was voided by the Panthers after Breeland failed a physical. (He had an infected cut on his foot.) Since then, Breeland has remained on the free agent market, unsigned. Breeland has floated around, drawing interest from other teams. The competition for Breeland seems to have heated up rapidly in the past few days, as many teams are now competing to bring the defensive back in for a visit.

Breeland is currently on a visit with the division rival Cleveland Browns. Assuming he does not agree to a deal with the Browns, Breeland will fly to Baltimore. The Ravens have been very aggressive with Breeland, and hope to get him on an official visit tonight. Meanwhile, the New York Jets have been talking with Breeland all week, but no official visit is scheduled with the Jets at this moment.

Should the Ravens get ahold of Breeland and reach a deal, the team’s secondary will solidify as the best in the National Football League. Breeland would be added to the outstanding depth the secondary already has, and become a big part of a defense looking to establish dominance. By signing Breeland, though, the Ravens would almost certainly have to part ways with another cornerback on the roster. Players like Jaylen Hill and Maurice Canady would be in danger of receiving the pink slip. This move probably would not come until after the preseason, but cuts will have to be made on a very deep secondary.
