You thought you heard the last of him, didn’t you?

While Baltimore keeps its focus on the Ravens, many may be oblivious to the fact that Breshad Perriman found a new home in Cleveland, and is playing well. Yes, you heard that right, former Ravens wide receiver and first-round draft bust, Breshad Perriman, is playing well for the Cleveland Browns. The Twilight Zone could not come up with a better storyline than the one we are witnessing right now.

After being cut by the Ravens, Perriman drove down I-95 to try out for the Redskins. He was signed by Washington, but his stint in the Capital City was brief. To be exact, it lasted five days. His career seemingly over, Perriman had to sit out of the league for three weeks before getting another chance. Perriman was invited to try out for the Browns. The team in full rebuild mode liked what they saw in Perriman and decided to take the risk, and sign him. Perriman sat out of Cleveland’s offensive effort in his first week with the Browns but found his way on to the field the next week.

Perriman has played in every game since being activated by the Browns in week seven. He started the streak off slowly, as he only caught one pass for six yards in his Browns debut. After not catching a football in week eight, Perriman’s production value exploded in week nine, and he has not slowed down. Since week nine, Perriman has caught nine balls for 182 yards. His yards per catch is at a career-high 18.8 yards. Perriman’s new found connection with quarterback, Baker Mayfield, has yielded the highest reception rate in his career. In Baltimore, Perriman struggled to catch more than any other receiver in recent memory. 2016, Perriman only caught 50% of the passes thrown at him, and that rate plummeted to a dismal 28.6% in 2017. But this year, his catch rate skyrocketed to 66.7%, and he caught all targets in the past four games. Perriman’s best game this season came last week, as he caught two balls, one of which was a 66-yard deep bomb. He finished the day with two receptions and 81 yards.

Perriman’s quick turn around in Cleveland is interesting to watch. The young receiver had many problems in Baltimore, and simply never fit into the offense after being drafted in the first round. Now, Perriman has a clean slate, and a chance to turn his disappointing NFL career around. He’s made the most of this opportunity so far.
