Hello all,
Today at the NFL Combine, the running backs, offensive linemen, and special team players did the bulk of their evaluation drills. In today’s Daily Combine Review, we are going to go over some of the top performers of the day, and the impact of each player’s performance today.
T.J. Logan RB – UNC – Top Performer
Logan needed a good day at the combine. The 5’9″, 196 pound running back from UNC did not see tons of action during his time with the Tar Heels. His best season, which was 2016, last season, he only rushed for 650 yards. To NFL scouts, Logan is a risk. It is not known whether he could be a workhorse running back, or at least a contributor to a team. Logan seemed to have quieted some critics today at the combine. The highlight of the day for Logan was his 40 yard dash, which was the best among all running backs at 4.37 seconds. The NFL loves backs with speed, so being the fastest in the draft will defiantly increase his stock. He also did a vertical jump of 33.5 inches, a broad jump of 121 inches, and 17 bench press reps.
Forrest Lamp OG – Western Kentucky – Top Performer
Rated among the top offensive guards in this year’s draft, Forrest Lamp came into this year’s combine on a mission to prove himself as the best guard in the draft, and he made a case for that. He performed well in all of the drills he participated in. The highlights of his performance include a 5 second 40 yard dash (4th best among linemen), 34 reps on the bench press (tied for 2nd among linemen), and a broad jump distance of 111 inches (tied for third best among linemen). Lamp also posted a 27.5 inch vertical jump, a 7.55 second 3 cone drill, and a 4.62 second 20 yard shuttle.
Christian McCaffrey RB – Stanford – Top Performer
McCaffrey is rated among the top three first round running backs in this year’s draft. Despite having a disappointing 10 reps during the bench press drill, McCaffrey performed solidly for all of his other drills. He posted a 4.48 second 40 yard dash, which is the best of the top three grouping that consists of himself, Dalvin Cook, and Leonard Fournette. In his vertical jump drill, he jumped for 37.5 inches (tied for2nd best among running backs), and in his broad jump he jumped for 121 inches. He also was tasked with some catching drills and returning kicks, in which he extensively showed off his ability to be a receiving back, and impressed many of the scouts.
Garrett Bolles OT – Utah – Top Performer
Garrett Bolles came into the NFL combine as a top offensive tackle, but with competition in Ryan Ramcyzk and Cam Robinson. Bolles needed a good combine showing in order to one up his competition, and he did just that. He posted a 4.95 second 40 yard dash (2nd best of all linemen). He also posted an impressive 115 inch broad jump. Some of his other scores were his 28 inch vertical jump, 7.29 second 3 cone drill, and 4.55 second 20 yard shuffle. His performance today helped to elevate his draft stock.
