This week was a very eventful week for the Baltimore Ravens, although eventful in a bad way. The Ravens have been underway with the beginnings of their practices for the 2017 season, with their organized team activities. However, multiple key players have sustained major injuries, setting back the Ravens drastically. There has also been a major free agency shakeup, that may interest the Ravens. We have also taken a look at another player who may potentially join the Ravens and examined candidates to fill open spots for the Ravens.

Thursday, June 1, 2017 – Multiple Ravens Injured at OTAs (Article), Tavon Young Tears ACL (Article)

The Ravens got their first article of bad news this week on Thursday when multiple players went down with injuries during OTAs. Wide Receiver Michael Campanero sprained his toe, Sheldon Price sustained a potential concussion, and Carl Davis had a strained pectoral. All of these injuries are minor, however, there was one major injury that occurred on Thursday. Ravens young and talented cornerback Tavon Young sustained a knee injury, which was later determined as a torn ACL. This will keep Young away from the football field for a while. The Ravens secondary will miss Young, as he played extremely well for an undersized rookie last season.

Friday, June 2, 2017 – Dennis Pitta Dislocates Hip (Article)

The Ravens got bad news for two days straight, when tight end Dennis Pitta, dislocated his hip for the third time in four years. Pitta led the Ravens last year in receptions, along with tight ends league wide. A strong presence for the Ravens receiving corps, and great friends with Joe Flacco, Pitta will now likely be forced to retire. The Ravens will now have to find a replacement tight end, who can produce like Dennis Pitta produced. This will be very difficult, and Baltimore is now becoming thin on pass catchers.

Opinion Pieces

We presented answers for multiple questions this week. For the question whether wide receiver Anquan Boldin would return to Baltimore (Article), we presented the argument that he will not, despite the constant media buzz surrounding the topic. We took a look at three candidates to fill the role left by fullback Kyle Juszczyk (Article). Our prediction is that it will be running back/fullback, Lorenzo Taliaferro. as he has already been in the system for some time now. We also addressed the recent release of star wide receiver Jeremy Maclin, by the Chiefs (Article). We theorize that it would be possible for Maclin to join the Ravens to boost the receiver talent corps for the Ravens. It would be a fantastic fit for Maclin, however, he would need to take a major pay cut, as the Ravens are up against the wall with the salary cap.
