After suffering an apparent triceps injury in Sunday’s win over the Seahawks, team doctors concluded that Pernell McPhee would need to miss a significant amount of time in recovery, possibly the whole season. In response, the Ravens placed McPhee on the injured reserve on Tuesday.

Baltimore signed McPhee this offseason, but McPhee previously played in Baltimore from 2011 to 2014. The Ravens hoped that McPhee would bring a veteran presence to an inexperienced pass rush group, and he did. McPhee was a leader on the field and the locker room. Before exiting Sunday’s game with a possible season-ending injury, McPhee had 17 total tackles and three sacks on the season.

The Ravens also announced the signing of linebacker Demone Harris to the practice squad in the same tweet.

After cutting Justin Bethel on Monday to recoup a fourth-round compensatory pick, the Baltimore Ravens now have two open roster spots. There is immense speculation that the Ravens could once again make a trade before the deadline, this time for a pass rusher. The hot name amongst fans on Twitter seems to be Yannick Ngakoue, but there is no evidence that the Ravens are even interested in the Jaguars’ fourth-year player.

According to Spotrac.com, the Ravens only have an estimated $2.7 million in cap space at the current time. Ngakoue’s contract only has him $2.2 million for the year, and the Ravens would undoubtedly get him for a lesser amount, as he has already been paid much of his salary for the season.

The Ravens currently have seven picks in the 2020 NFL Draft and are sure to get compensatory picks this offseason. Baltimore is currently in possession of two fourth-round picks and is expected to get another after cutting Justin Bethel. If Baltimore is to spend a draft pick on a pass rusher, look for it to be a fourth-rounder. It’s unknown whether the Jaguars would accept a fourth-round pick in exchange for Yannick Ngakoue, but the pass rusher will hit the free-agent market at the end of the season anyway, so the Jaguars could look to get compensation for Ngakoue now if the team is not interested in re-signing him.

The NFL trade deadline is on October 29, at 4:00 PM eastern time.
